Simi Valley Movers has a large fleet of trucks and trailers different sizes to be able assist any customers need.

Long distance moving services around west cost states (radius of 1,200 miles), and cross country moves - from California to the North East part of the United States is a big part of our business.

We have a location and warehouses in New York and New Jersey. This allows us to keep a constant flow of business between these two largest metropolitan areas. The New York location was strategically selected as the route between these regions is the busiest and most popular.

There are many other destinations between Southern California and New York. Our dispatch department selects specific routes and combines geographically desirable loads allowing our drivers to make multiple stops in order to make deliveries and pick ups in the Mid-West region.

While the trucking industry is based on a large fuel consumption, we have always been conscientious of the impact on the environment. That is why we keep our routes short and prices in order to maintain a small carbon foot print. Our trucks are set to the highest standards set forth by the EPA for fuel emission and consumption.

There are two major ways of long distance transportation:

  1. Exclusive use of a truck or trailer (the fastest and most expansive option). Exclusive option is often used for shipments relocating with in 800 miles and occupying at least 80% of space inside the truck.
  2. Consolidated relocation. This option allows company to combine many different shipments having the same destination or in a general route of most deliveries. This option may take a little longer than exclusive option, however it is substantially less expansive.

Calculating the Cost of Long Distance Moves

- Transportation cost is determined by a tariff - calculated by cost per pound($/lb.). Based on the size/weight of the load and the distance to new residence.

- Fuel surcharge (for moves outside CA) is an adjustment to the tariff (based on current cost of fuel), it is a marginal adjustment anywhere from 5% to 15%. Quoted to customer at the time of an estimate.

- Materials - non recyclible moving materials - used to secure fragile items,

Transportation cost includes following services:

  • Protecting furniture with moving pads,
  • Loading the truck,
  • Transportation of the truck to new location,
  • Unloading the truck,
  • Placing furniture into the residence,
  • Removing blankets.
  •

Other Services Available to customers (additional cost):

  • Packing & unpacking boxes,
  • Dis-assembly & reassembly of furniture,
  • Crating large fragile articles that cannot be protected by regular boxes (Glass, marble furniture, TV's, etc.),
  • Long walks (from truck to front door),
  • Outside Stairs or flights of stairs inside buildings,
  • Extra stops (pickup or deliveries),
  • Shuttle,
  • Hoisting,
  • Towing,
  • Storage in transit (customer is not ready for straight delivery).

These services are always discussed with customers and some of them may be negotiable. Some of these services and costs associated with them are avoidable. They are a part of "do it yourself" option by a customer, such as packing and unpacking, dis-assembly and reassembly of furniture, protecting large items is possible by customer but not recommended.

Here is an example of actual calculation of transportation cost (price per pound):

- Heavy weight of the truck is deducted from its light weight: 20,700 lbs. - 15,620 lbs.

- The result is weight of shipment: 5,080 lbs.

- Tariff (move from Simi Valley, CA to Denver, CO): $0.42/lb. + 10% (fuel surcharge)

- Total (transportation and fuel surcharge): 5,080 X 0.42 = $2,133 + $213 (10% fuel s.) = $2,346.00

In this example we showed calculations of transportation cost of a shipment weighing 5,080 lbs. going From Simi Valley, CA to Denver, CO. (The tariffs are subjects to change due to economic condition, route/space availability).

If other services are described above are required our specialist will explain the costs and include them in the estimate provided to customer before they make reservation.
